Film – From Balfour to Banksy: Divisions and Visions in Palestine

Oct 2018

100 years ago Britain’s Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour set in motion the vision of Israel… His ‘Balfour Declaration’ had another, disastrous impact: the dispossession of the Palestinian people.

This film looks at other visions — including a wide range of views from occupied Palestine today, ranging from anger to attempts at envisioning a future. It also shows the vision of another Englishman: the contemporary artist Banksy, who has created in Palestine a hotel that is also a remarkable satirical art installation.

How do today’s Palestinians live, behind the ‘security wall’? What change must come?

Afternoon Tea with Megan Dobney at Ruskin House

Oct 2018
3pm - 6pm

Fundraising for decorating the old LP office at Ruskin House – Afternoon Tea with Megan Dobney.          Promoted by Roshni Fernando

Ruskin House is hosting an afternoon tea on Saturday 6th October from 3pm to 6pm with guest speaker, Megan Dobney speaking at 3.30pm. Megan Dobney served as regional secretary for the Southern and Eastern region of the Trades Union Council. The money raised from the event will go towards decorating the old Labour office in Ruskin House which is being transformed into a library and meeting space. The room will be named after Georgina King Lewis who gave the money for the first Ruskin House to be set up to enable trade unionists to have a place to meet. We would like to celebrate female trade unionists of the past and present such as Georgina King Lewis who often go unrecognised as well as raising money to create a library and meeting place named in her honour.

A ticket includes a buffet selection of food and unlimited tea and coffee. Other drinks will be available from the bar including pimms and prosecco! Kids go free but you must book their free ticket so that we know for numbers. Vegan and Vegetarian food will also be available. Looking forward to seeing you.
